Students become familiar with the history of cranberries, including the culture, people and land.
What is the history of cranberry culture in Wisconsin?
In this lesson, students become familiar with important events and people in the history of the cranberry marsh and examine relationships within and among the people, the historical events, and the marsh itself. After watching and discussing the video, Not So Wild Anymore, students are given a historical event to present to the class. The lesson concludes with the students constructing a giant timeline in the classroom, using historical photographs to illustrate the timeline. Students not only begin to gain a historical perspective of the cranberry marsh, but they also have the opportunity to strengthen their language arts competency.
